Scott Charney, President and CEO

 

Scott Charney’s insurance career began in 1977 working in the underwriting side of the business.  After three and a half years, he moved into the retail brokerage side where he remained for 12 years.  His skill set and ability to market and service small accounts as well as major national accounts had enabled him to rise to the level of Senior Vice President of a large regional brokerage.  Scott then made the move to the wholesale side of the insurance industry working with one of the largest wholesalers in the area. His entrepreneurial nature led him to start his own wholesale agency in 1996.  Since then he has led CMS from a 2 person operation to one of the leading wholesalers in the tri-state area, representing over 50 carriers with offices in Long Island, New York City and Florida.  His unique ability to know all aspects of the insurance business and markets enables him to work on almost any risk and place it.  His work ethic and drive to succeed has helped move CMS to the next level and strives to continue on with its success.

 

Scott was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and is a graduate of Bernard M. Baruch College.  He graduated with a bachelor of business administration degree while lettering in 2 sports.  He played basketball for four years where he rose to become team captain and baseball where pitched for 2 years.  He is married with two children living locally on Long Island.

 

Today Scott enjoys golf, traveling, movies and spending time with his family.  Scott is active in various charities and community work.  He sits on the board of the Hagedorn Little Village School, Jack Joel Center for Special Children and sits on the Golf tournament and Journal committees.  In addition he has coached soccer, baseball and sat on various school site base committees in his district.

 

 

Rich Verdi, Executive Vice President

 

Rich Verdi started his insurance career in 1988 working for his family’s retail insurance brokerage in Brooklyn,  N.Y while attending the College of Insurance in NYC.

 

In 1992 he took an entry level commercial lines position at a large retail insurance agency in Manhattan.  Within 2 years he was the lead renewal underwriter for two of the largest real estate managing agents in NYC.

 

In the mid 90’s Richard changed his career path and entered the wholesale side of the insurance business and started Creative Coverage Network Inc (CCN). Through mergers and acquisitions CCN eventually morphed into Combined Underwriting Agency Network Inc which merged with CMS,  LLC. in July of 2009.

 

Richard currently holds the position of Executive Vice President of CMS,  LLC and is responsible for the daily marketing efforts of the commercial lines department.

 

Rich currently resides on Long Island along with his wife and two daughters. 

 

 

Tom McDonald, V.P, Businsess Development

 

Tom McDonald joined CMS in December of 2005 after a long career on the corporate side of the industry. Originally beginning his tutelage with Aetna C&S in 1976 as a commercial lines package underwriter; he rose through the ranks holding several positions including Underwriting Manager, Marketing Manager and eventually Resident Vice President for the New York/New Jersey Region for one of the largest national carriers.  He brings over three decades of experience in all phases of commercial and personal lines insurance. As Executive VP of Business Development within the CMS organization, Tom’s responsibilities oversee sales, production and the day to day business functions with both our customers, and the markets we represent.

 

In his spare time, Tom enjoys boating and fishing.  He has his captain's license and spends many summer weekend on the waters of Long Island

 


John Pisciotta Jr, V.P, Personal Lines

 

John Pisciotta Jr. has been in the insurance industry for over 16 years. He started his career working for a family run business (Andrew J. Corsa & Sons). As most children working for a family run business he started from the bottom as a mail clerk. Eager to learn the insurance business, he received his brokers license in 1998. After obtaining his license John focused on the personal lines aspect of the business. In 1999 John was instrumental in the merger of Andrew J. Corsa and Richard Verdi & Sons to form Combined Underwriting where he became partner and the head of the personal lines department. In September of 2009 John again used his skills to assist in the merger of Combined Underwriting with Charney Marketing Services to form Combined Marketing Services (CMS). As head of the Personal Lines department at CMS, his goal is to use his extensive knowledge to satisfy all of our producers needs with service and respect.

 

John, a former high school and  NCAA college lacrosse player, still enjoys the game and in his free time continues to play. He is married with two children.

 

Doreen Simeone, V.P. Underwriting

 

Doreen began her insurance career in 1985 working on the retail side of the business where she received her brokers License.  Here she worked on both personal lines and commercial lines.  In 1996 she joined CMS at the beginning with Scott Charney. Doreen has been an intregal part of the growth of CMS where she has risen to V.P. of Underwriting. She is responisble for monitoring and mainting  her own book of business while also overseeing the entire renewal book of business for the company.  Her extensive knowledge of CMS markets puts her in a strong position to maintain renewals and offer creative solutions to policies when the marketplace changes. Doreen also oversees compliance with Excess & Surplus with various states along with all internal office procesures.

 

Doreen was born and raised on Long Island, where she currently resides. She enjoys gardening, reading, fishing & boating.
